Shizuka Kuramitsu

Biography

I am a second year Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies student originally from Hiroshima, Japan, and a current intern at United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research in Geneva. During my study at MIIS, I worked as a graduate research assistant for Critical Issues Forum at James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies.

Areas of interest

My areas of interest are nuclear disarmament/nonproliferation, education, multilateral diplomacy, and civil society engagement in disarmament process.

Project description

My project is called “Bake Don’t Bomb.” Learning from climate movement and other social justice activists, my project sells bomb-shaped cookie cutter instruction online in order to raise public awareness about nuclear issues and to diversify options for civil society to take social actions at home.
